Radio Review

Receiving requests, regrets, and regards for a talk show recently concluded; I am deeply honored to have met and talked with so many of you – the patriots of Northeastern Oklahoma.  The most common request has been for the list of reading material I covered in the last segment of The David Arnett Show.  That list follows.  In addition, the last show’s core content is included here for your consideration.

One year of regular weekend broadcast preparation included listening to the titans of talk; Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levine, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, and others.  Their natural abilities and developed skill dwarf mine and I am in grateful appreciation for their inspiration.

However, 30-years as a writer suggested I first read both history and current public policy work for the “radio gig.”  This is that list in part:

The Law, by Fredric Bastiat
The Constitution of the United States of America
A Patriot’s History of the United States, by Larry Schweikart and Michael Allen
The 5000 Year Leap – a Miracle that changed the World, by W. Cleon Skousen
The Real George Washington, by Perry, Allison, and Skousen
The Real Thomas Jefferson, by Allison, Maxfield, Cook, and Skousen
Original Intent, by David Barton
American History in Black & White, by David Barton
Culture of Corruption, by Michelle Malkin
New Deal or Raw Deal, by Burton Folsom Jr.
Giants, the parallel lives of Fredric Douglas and Abraham Lincoln, by John Stauffer
Liberty and Tyranny, by Mark Levin
Arguing with Idiots, by Glenn Beck
Fleeced, by Dick Moris
Surrender is not an Option, by John Bolton
Guilty, by Ann Coulter
Courage and Consequences, by Karl Rove
Muslim Mafia, by P. David Gaubatz and Paul Sperry
Scriptures of the World’s Religions, by James Fieser & John Powers

In the spirit of full disclosure, some of those I have not finished, but all have been explored and found helpful in building a textured understanding of world events.  The content of that last show was what I believe most important to talk with to any person of character concerned with the future of America.

There is a great divide growing in the Untied States and while it may or may not be the end of days as some suggest, it is, at the least, a significant turning point in history.  What kind of people do we want to be and what honor should we hold dear?  The choice is freedom and self-determination or socialism and Marxism – responsibility or entitlement – equal opportunity or equal outcomes – courage or chaos.

It is not by force of arms or foreign armies, but economics that threaten America.  We have allowed Crony Capitalist to pervert the meaning of Capitalism.  We have devolved and abandoned production to pontification.  They said all America had to do was shuffle paper for a good living in the myth of a “new” world economy and they lied.  America must return to the path of innovation and creation – we must grow or die.

On air we discussed Stephen Moore’s article in The Wall Street Journal titled, “We’ve Become a Nation of Takers, Not makers.  Click here for that article.

Further, Gallup reports the unemployment rate is higher than government reports suggest.  Click here for that article.

Posted on Tulsa Today is an interview with Kevin D. Freeman that may be the most important story this writer has ever produced.  It goes further than Freeman’s Department of Defense contracted economic analysis to question the public positions of financier George Soros and, with full credit to TheBlaze.com, a domestic terror plot by union organizer Steve Lerner.  Click here to read that exclusive story on Tulsa Today titled, “War on your money underway.”

Finally on the topic of economics, we discussed on-air the Bloomberg story titled, “Foreign Banks Tapped Fed’s Secret Lifeline Most at Crisis Peak” and a story from CNN on the IMF call to replace the dollar with an alternative.  Click here for the CNN story.

Tulsa is the former-Oil Capital of the World and by that history we know a bit about carbon based fuel.  It powers progress and thus is hated by progressives who apparently want us all to herd goats for a living.  The distain by the Left is beyond policy; for them it is a religion as they worship the creation without regard to the creator.

John Hofmeister, former Shell Oil President, says media and politicians are missing the point between “proven” and “probable” oil reserves.  Our proven may be low, but our probable oil reserves could meet America’s needs for the next 200 years.  The problem of course is Federal Government restrictions that keep us from harvesting those resources for the benefit of our citizens.  (Where did that goat herd wander?)  We have more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia so why are we buying instead of producing?

Fadel Gheit, Oppenheimer & Company Oil Analyst, said recently in a broadcast interview that oil prices have been inflated for a long time.  Many Tulsa oil folk agree.  He also stated that the United States could be 100 percent energy independent within ten years, but local experts note that if we really get an attitude – it could take much less time.  The critical factor is getting brainless environmental worshipers out of government regulation.  Can that be done?  It must be done.  How can President Obama give $2 billion to Marxist led Brazil for deep-water drilling while choking America out of the same market?  If that is not economic treason, what is it?  China is helping Cuba drill in the Gulf of Mexico; do you really think they will be more environmentally careful than American companies?

In a January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, then candidate Barack Obama said, “Under my plan of Cap and Trade System, energy prices would necessarily skyrocket.”  Well Mr. President even without Cap and Trade, they are skyrocketing and hurting the most vulnerable in our society.  Gee thanks Mr. Marxist.

Not to avoid local politics on the last of The David Arnett Show on KRMG, we discussed the recent Tulsa County Republican Convention.  This also from a previous posting on Tulsa Today and a subject discussed the previous week.  For more on that issue, click here to read, “Republican Convention questions remain.”

Next up, America’s border war came into focus as it should for Oklahomans.  Nearly 8,200 farms and ranches in Texas are under attack.  They are our neighbors and they produce more cotton and cattle than any other state.  Parts of Texas is now dotted with Federal signs warning of violence and discouraging citizen travel in those areas.  We are losing American land to criminals from Mexico.  Washington doesn’t think we should be concerned.  Are they insane, stupid or just evil?

Local media was also discussed as the daily newspaper in Tulsa has shown itself to be “goose stepping” to the elitist myth of socialist utopia.  These particular ruling elite damned capitalism on Christmas, blamed Glenn Beck for the Tucson shooting, maintain unreasonable loyalty to public unions and generally don’t understand or like Christians.  They are very fond of Islam, but that is another story for another day.

Arkansas River restoration and development in Tulsa County was a detailed topic we did not discuss, but it is high on my list of stories upcoming on Tulsa Today.  I may also write reviews on many of the books listed in this story and others as I discover them.

Since 1996 Tulsa Today is our way to continue to discuss these and other issues.  You are welcome to register free and comment on any topic.  This site is not a blog, but an online news service with a dozen different correspondents throughout the state.  Tulsa Today hosted over 2.5 million page views in 2010 and we are on-track to top that number by a significant margin in 2011.  We welcome diverse discourse.

Yes, there may be other opportunities for this pundit on-air.  I am a communications consultant, a professional writer, publisher and other opportunity may call.  I have and will secure and expand this site for you.  It may be proof that I am in need of a twelve-step program to exit journalism, but this is a debt free media property that remains honor bound to ensure that the First Amendment works for and within our community.  So help me God.

The last words spoken on The David Arnett Show were a simple request, “Read the Constitution, it is the only thing that stands between you and tyranny.  This is David Arnett signing off on KRMG.”
