Opinion: Tulsa oilman Tom Atkinson has spent $400,000 of his own money to race against incumbent U.S. Rep. Jim Bridenstine and raised another $300,000 much from out of state according to the latest reports. The total gives Atkinson a significant budget for broadcast media and repetitive mailings in the 1st District of Oklahoma.
Atkinson has used the money to tag himself as a conservative, but has failed miserably to explain why he would be a better conservative than Rep. Jim Bridenstine which suggests he would be less conservative. Point of irony: Atkinson has attacked Bridenstine because he is conservative.
Rep. Bridenstine was the only member of the Oklahoma congressional delegation to vote against the controversial $1 trillion catchall spending bill last year saying publicly that the bill funded everything conservatives oppose, including Planned Parenthood and the Affordable Care Act. It is not possible to be more conservative than standing alone to vote based on principles.
But Atkinson said he would have voted for the legislation because it allowed U.S. oil companies to sell crude abroad for the first time in decades. But isn’t that a “special interest” Atkinson says he will oppose – oh that’s right, he may oppose some special interests, but not his own. Sorry, missed that qualifier.
Rep. Bridenstine, who debated Atkinson earlier this month at the Tulsa Republican Club, has limited himself to three terms in the House. This is his final term.
The video below from the Tulsa Republican Club debate between the two candidates was carried by Tulsa Live Events which maintains it online for the public record.
Tulsa Today endorses Rep. Jim Bridenstine because he demonstrates honor daily in the conduct of his office. Bridenstine is an articulate coherent advocate for Oklahoma issues and people and is a staunch defender of the U.S. Constitution. For more information on Rep. Jim Bridenstine online, click here.
Former-Senator Tom Coburn has also endorsed Rep. Bridenstine.
“I’m Tom Coburn and I wholeheartedly endorse Jim Bridenstine for Congress. He is a man of his word who faces unrelenting pressure in Washington, yet he has never wavered. Jim cares more about the long term health of our nation than his own political career and that kind of moral character is rare in Washington today. I am proud of the work he does on our behalf and I am proud to support him.” – Senator Tom Coburn.
The primary election is next Tuesday, June 28.
If you are still undecided please view the video below. It is our favorite video of Rep. Jim Bridenstine and summarizes the Barack Hussein Obama Administration perfectly.
His opponent, Tom Atkinson, nor any other representative from Oklahoma holds this degree of courage, mouth and tensile strength (the resistance of a material to breaking under tension).
