Oklahoma charitable giving ranks #5 in US

tulsacharityTomorrow has been designated “Giving Tuesday” with even a hash tag in the struggling Twitter Universe of   #GivingTuesday. Granted motivation for action prior to year-end is provided by the U.S. Tax Code, but it is good most get that done as shopping begins.

The personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2016’s Most Charitable States as well as a Charity Calculator to help donors maximize their philanthropic impact.

Nearly a third of all annual giving takes place in December and the U.S. ranking second overall in this year’s World Giving Index, the personal-finance website WalletHub report should make Oklahoma proud – we rank fifth in the nation for 2016.

To determine the most generous states, WalletHub compared them based on 13 key metrics. The data set ranges from “volunteer rate” to “percentage of income donated” to “percentage of sheltered homeless.”

Generosity in Oklahoma (1=Most Charitable; 25=Avg.) 
• 30th – Volunteer Rate
• 5th – % of Donated Income
• 19th – % of Population Who Claim to Have Donated Time
• 4th – % of Population Collecting/Distributing Food
• 9th – Number of Volunteer Hours per Capita
• 10th – % of Population Collecting/Distributing Clothes
