OU names Chief Strategy Officer

The University of Oklahoma announced today Jim W. Morrison will be its new chief strategy officer. In this role, Morrison will serve as a senior leader at OU, overseeing the coordinated implementation of OU’s strategic plan to ensure university-wide alignment and progress across all three OU campuses.

Protect Our Kids opposes recreational drug

A coalition of community, business, and law enforcement leaders filed papers with the Oklahoma Ethics Commission this week to oppose SQ 820, the effort to legalize recreational marijuana under state law. Official documents list former Governor Frank Keating as the chairman of the organization, Protect Our Kids No 820.

Bill to require votes on TIF Districts

Rep. Tom Gann, R-Inola, has filed House Bill 1379, which would require a vote by citizens to “redirect” property tax through Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) Districts. Gann issued a press release on topic today.

Gann explained that in Mayes County, Mid-America Industrial Park (MAIP) officers proposed “redirecting” county property tax through the implementation of a TIF district to benefit new corporations coming into the industrial park.

Decrease child abuse and neglect

The tragic news coming from Cyril, Okla., regarding the death of 4-year-old Athena Brownfield has brought forth as many questions as answers over the past few weeks.

For those not following the horrifying story, a postal worker reported to authorities a five-year-old was unattended and in a location where she was not supposed to be. This led to the investigation that found her four-year-old sister was missing and later found dead at the hands of their caregivers.
