TULSA, OK—The Tulsa Roughnecks FC began their journey in the United Soccer League on Saturday night as they battled the Oklahoma City Energy to a 1-1 draw in front of a sellout crowd of 8,335 at ONEOK Field. Billed as the “Oklahoma Derby”, the inaugural match at ONEOK inspired an electric atmosphere in the stands featuring both from both eras of professional soccer in Tulsa, with the new generation beginning with the ideal in-state rivalry between Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

A challenge to the candidacy of Julia Coates for the office of Deputy Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation has been filed and heard by the Cherokee Nation Election Commission. They ruled against Coates, but from the transcript released yesterday it is clear the Commission cared little for Cherokee Law.

Undisputed are the facts that Julia Coates currently works as a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) teaching Native American Studies. She was born in Pryor, Oklahoma and first worked for the Cherokee Nation in 2000 teaching the forty-hour Cherokee history course to over 7,000 students. She helped organize twenty-two “At Large” Cherokee communities and, in 2007, Coates was elected to the Tribal Council by a 75 percent margin to the office she still holds.

Gov. Mary Fallin declares State of Emergency

TornadoOKLAHOMA CITY – Governor Mary Fallin today declared a state of emergency for 25 counties including Tulsa County due to tornadoes, severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding on Wednesday.

The list of counties included in the governor’s declaration are: Caddo, Canadian, Carter, Cleveland, Comanche, Creek, Garvin, Grady, Lincoln, Logan, Love, McClain, Murray, Oklahoma, Osage, Pawnee, Payne, Pontotoc, Rogers, Seminole, Stephens, Tulsa, Wagoner, Washington and Washita.
