Police get new downtown digs

The new Downtown Tulsa Police Storefront is now open at 507 S. Main Street, in the Oil Capitol Building.

The one-year lease for the space is being paid by Downtown Tulsa Unlimited (DTU), with the City of Tulsa subleasing the space for one dollar per year.  A donation by Kanbar Properties to DTU allowed them to remodel the property and pay the initial rent.

The storefront features a reception area, meeting room, office space and bicycle storage.  Officer Jennifer Mansell, downtown safety liaison and supervisor of the downtown bicycle patrols, will staff the office on a part-time basis.

Tulsa Police Chief Ron Palmer was enthusiastic about the storefront.  “I am so pleased that DTU has donated this space,” he said.  “This gives TPD the opportunity to increase our presence and our service downtown.  Hopefully, we’ll be able to take advantage of this terrific location far into the future.”

Citizen safety is one of the primary reasons for the highly visible, easily accessible space, according to Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor.  “By partnering with Downtown Tulsa Unlimited we can help downtown residents, workers and visitors feel safer.”
