Workers for the Southern Foods Dairy (Borden Viva) at 215 North Denver got an unexpected break Monday night as fire broke out in the administrative offices.
Workers evacuated across the street as flames shot out of windows and a door on the Brady Street side of the historic building.
Machine operator Steve Wallace said there was a general concern as ammonia is used in the cleaning processes and other cleaning material was stored near where flames were seen. The fire began at about 10:45 pm.
Responding quickly with six fire engines, the Tulsa Fire Department had the incident under control with the fire extinguished in about 20 minutes. Chief Bell and investigators continue to search for the cause.
The dairy ships milk by the tanker truck throughout the region in continuous production. This night, the shift ended early.
