Hilti has teamed with Tulsa Habitat for Humanity to sponsor the construction of several homes in North Tulsa to create homeownership opportunities for qualified families.  In addition to sponsoring the house, Hilti will donate the necessary tools for the project as well as needed labor for construction through employee volunteers.

Construction is scheduled to begin this month.  The Hilti effort will contribute to Tulsa Habitat for Humanity’s goal of building 25 houses in 2006. Tulsa Habitat for Humanity intends to build an additional 1,500 houses by the year 2025, with the mission of eliminating substandard housing in Tulsa.

"Tulsa is home to more than 750 local employees,” said Cary Evert, Hilti president and CEO. "Our team members are looking forward to giving back to our community and are proud to demonstrate their commitment to building a better future by helping Habitat meet its goal for Tulsa.”

Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat is able to help families in need of a decent home. Families enter into a working relationship with Habitat and must complete 500 hours of "sweat equity” before becoming a homeowner.  Participation in sweat equity is possible by working on a build site, in the Habitat woodshop, ReStore or offices and by attending classes on budgeting and various life-skills issues.  With an affordable, no-interest loan, homebuyers are able to make monthly mortgage payments which help fund and build future Habitat homes.
