TU’s Varsity 2-, consisting of seniors Michelle Sechser and Angela Rozowski-Vogt, had the largest margin of victory of the day with a time of 6:14.0.The University of Tulsa women’s rowing team claimed the Midwest Intercollegiate Rowing Team Championship (MIRC) for the second consecutive time as the Golden Hurricane earned five gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal for 95 points on Saturday afternoon in Omaha, Nebraska.

“We accomplished our overall goal, which was to defend our team championship,” Head Coach Kevin Harris said.  “We needed everyone to step up to win, and they did.  I am very pleased.  Now we will prepare for the Dad Vail Regatta and hopefully come back with similar successes.”

TU’s Varsity 2-, consisting of seniors Michelle Sechser and Angela Rozowski-Vogt, had the largest margin of victory of the day with a time of 6:14.0, 42 seconds faster than second-place and host Creighton.  The Lightweight 4+ also dominated their race, taking first place by 41 seconds in a time of 6:41.7.

The Novice 4+ continued its success and remained undefeated on the year with a first-place time of 6:39.4, while the Varsity 4+ ‘A’ captured the top spot in a time of 6:08.5 and the 2nd Varsity 8+ turned in a time of 5:24.4 for the gold medal.

“I am really pleased and excited about the Novice 4+ boat,” Harris said.  “They haven’t lost a heat, semifinal or final race this season which is incredibly rare.  I am looking forward to see what they can do at the Dad Vail.”

The Varsity 8+ captured the bronze medal with a time of 5:34.4, just seven seconds behind Creighton and only three seconds shy of SMU’s second-place time.  This was the Varsity 8+’s best race since defeating Creighton in the Lawless Cup a month ago.

TU will return to action on Friday-Saturday, May 9-10 at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa.
