Save the date – the BOK Center is celebrating its first birthday, and everyone is welcome to the party.
The festival-type atmosphere is free and open to the public from 10:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the downtown arena. Live music, giveaways and more are planned.
Local favorites, Usual Suspects, will perform their unique blend of classic rock, dance music, blues and current hits at 10 a.m. Area high school marching bands will perform sets throughout the day on the turf installed on the arena floor. Edison and Memorial High Schools, both of which performed during the Grand Opening last year, have confirmed their return, with at Ieast one more school to be announced.
Guests can take tours of the building, interact with many of the building sponsors, play in the interactive Wii game zone, win door prizes and take home a commemorative gift. All guests are encouraged to bring their cameras and take their picture with life-size cutouts or the artists from some of the most popular shows during the BOK Center’s first year.
All concession stands, including Billy’s On The Square, Borden’s, In The Raw, Mazzio’s Italian Eatery, and Ike’s Chili, will be open. Select items are available for only $1.00, such as Ike’s small frito pie, Mazzio’s pizza slice, sno cones, cotton candy, Billy’s french fry/onion ring combo and more.
The first Rock & Rib Festival, sponsored by Rib Crib, will also open at 11am on Third & Frisco, just outside the building. Admission is also free to the public until 1pm.
