Move America Forward Formally condemned the move immediately. “We gain nothing by shutting down Guantanamo Bay, which has been proven to be an ideal facility, tailor-made for this job and operating in full accordance with our laws and values,” said Danny Gonzalez, communications director for the group. “Moving them to a stateside facility is dangerous and the fact that it’s so close to a huge urban area like Chicago makes the Thomson facility a particularly attractive target for terrorists.”

“I visited Guantanamo Bay with a group of 6 others in 2008, before Eric Holder or anyone in President Obama’s administration ever set foot there,” continued Gonzalez, referring to a 3 day tour of the facility the group sponsored last year. “President Obama’s criticisms of Gitmo are baseless, and the senseless idea that we will be taking away another recruitment tool is totally baseless. In fact we are giving Al Qaeda more recruitment tools by putting them in a civilian court system and giving them a platform to preach their vicious ideology and access to other prisoners to try and spread their hate.”
