Foo Fighters begin their world tour in Tulsa May 17 at the BOK Center as they play songs from Wasting Light, the new album they recorded in Dave Grohl’s garage. As pre-promotion for the tour, Foo Fighters will grace the garages of eight lucky fans in eight North American cities.
Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear have teamed with BlackBerry® and local radio stations to create a once in a lifetime opportunity for the ultimate fan to host a Foo Fighters live performance in his or her actual garage for these eight dates only.
Fans who want a shot at making their garage one of these eight intimate venues can either enter the contest directly by explaining, in 25 words or less, why they (and 50 of their friends) deserve to win and then sending in a picture of their garage. For detailed instructions go to www.foofightersgaragetour.com/contest.
Listeners of local radio stations will also have a chance to attend the garage show in their town. BlackBerry is also sponsoring a Concert Sweepstakes, in which winners will receive tickets to see the band in concert, an autographed copy of Wasting Light and more. Foo Fighters new record Wasting Light, out April 12, 2011 on Roswell/RCA, was recorded entirely on analog tape in the garage of Dave Grohl’s home in California’s San Fernando Valley. Produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Alan Moulder, the no computers/no software back to basics approach has resulted in arguably the strongest and most cohesive effort of the band’s 15-year-plus career: From the opening one-two punch of “Bridge Burning” and lead single “Rope” to the beautifully bipolar “These Days” to stunning guest spots from Bob Mould (“Dear Rosemary”) and Krist Novoselic (“I Should Have Known”), Wasting Light is a singular triumph: a band that has headlined arenas, stadiums and festivals the world over stripping itself down to the bare essentials and coming up with a world class band’s finest hour.
