Rep. Mullin on January Jobs Report

Rep. Markwayne Mullin (OK-2) responded to the latest jobs report writing, “Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its monthly Jobs Report and it is once again not good news for the American economy.”

“In this report, coming days after we learned that the economy is shrinking for the first time in three years, we now learn that job growth is down at the start of President Obama’s second term.”

“We must do a better job cutting through Washington’s bureaucratic red tape to create an environment for the private sector to thrive. I am a business owner who knows how difficult it is to operate successfully in the current regulatory environment. I ran for Congress because I got fed up with government overregulation.  America’s entrepreneurs need a climate that encourages them to succeed.”

Some highlights of the report include:

•   Unemployment rose to 7.9 percent
•   The number of unemployed persons was estimated at 12.3 million
•   The economy added just 157,000 jobs last month
