Michael Willis announced today his candidacy for Tulsa County Clerk – the chief administrative officer for county government. Willis brings more than 10 years of experience in local government management, as well as several years in the private sector, to the position.
For the last six years, Willis has served as the Tulsa County Spokesman and Chief Deputy to the Board of County Commissioners. In addition, Willis volunteers as a Reserve Police Officer for the Tulsa Police Department, serves as the Governor’s appointee on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs and volunteers as a Member of the Board of the Tulsa Sports Commission.
Willis is also active in the Rotary Club of Tulsa and is a member of Leadership Tulsa, among other civic organizations. His prior experience includes four years as Director of Government Relations for the City of Tulsa and four years in business as a public relations consultant, focusing on energy, commercial real estate and healthcare sectors.
Throughout his career, Willis has earned a reputation as a responsive, dedicated leader unafraid of challenge and hard work.
At Tulsa County, he organized and coordinated a variety of vital projects including infrastructure improvements, public outreach and the establishment of Tulsa County’s web-based open records system.
As Tulsa County Clerk, Willis will enhance and expand the use of technology to improve transparency and efficiency, fight to reduce spending and implement conservative, responsive County government.
“I believe we need energetic, conservative leadership in Tulsa County more than ever. The County Clerk impacts every other county office as the chief administrator responsible for daily oversight of accounts payable, payroll, benefits administration, record keeping, auditing and land records,” Willis said.
“My family and I have prayerfully considered this opportunity in public service for more than a year,” he said. “We consulted family and friends carefully noting the challenges ahead and their encouragement has built a diverse, dedicated and growing coalition of supporters.”
Michael Willis lives in Tulsa with his wife, Marcie, and their two children, Olivia and Mark. They are members of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church.
