TPS struggling to accomodate Hispanic growth

Tulsa’s Fox 23 has reported an interesting and timely study that notes nearly one third of all students in Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) are Hispanic, and speak Spanish at home.

District leaders, like Laura Grisso, the Title 3 Director for TPS, told Fox 23’s Michelle Linn a lot of the growth is happening at schools like Skelly Elementary, in east Tulsa.

Jenks pulls OKC Bombing video

OKCBombingVideoSmMariah Harnish writing for Red Dirt Report is covering the Jenks Public Schools verdict on a controversial piece of curriculum, deeming it will no longer be a part of the school’s educational arsenal.

The video in question, “Oklahoma City Bombing Conspiracy,” is a product of The History Channel and until the current school year has been an optional part of the Oklahoma History curriculum at Jenks.

Melissa Abdo meets with voters

Melissa Abdo, is a candidate for Oklahoma House District 69 which extends from Jenks to Bixby and includes much of South Tulsa. The race will be decided next Tuesday August 26. A small businesswoman, member of the Jenks School Board and passionate education advocate; Abdo exemplifies the American spirit of citizen legislator.

Pro-faith and pro-life “from the moment of conception” Abdo is a strong believer in minimizing bureaucratic regulations to spur economic growth. She received the highest possible rating for a candidate from the National Rifle Association and is endorsed by business, faith and elected leaders throughout Tulsa County.

Asked what has been the biggest surprise in this race Abdo said, “I didn’t know going into this campaign how much insider baseball is played. Some people will come up to you to say they are not considering your campaign because someone else supported it that they don’t like. My usual thought is, Wow, really? Why wouldn’t you talk with me and then make up your own mind based on a direct conversation.”

District Attorney debate online

TulsaLiveEventsGOPTulsa Live Events has provided video of the debate between Tulsa County district attorney candidates Fred Jordan and Steve Kunzweiler Friday at the Tulsa County Republican Club.

While the daily newspaper notes the candidates “shared some tense moments over whether the state reduced funding to county district attorneys’ offices;” funding was not the only issue on which they disagreed.

Federal Grand Jury indictments announced, prosecutor honored

JuvenileJusticeTULSA, OKLAHOMA— The results of the August 2014 Federal Grand Jury were announced today by Danny C. Williams Sr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma.

The following named individuals have been charged with a federal crime or crimes by the return of an indictment by the Grand Jury. The return of an indictment is a method of informing the defendant of alleged violations which must be proven in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt to overcome the defendant’s presumption of innocence.
