Theatre Tulsa joins SummerStage

TheatreTulsaSummerStageTheatre Tulsa’s production for the Tulsa Performing Arts Center’s SummerStage Festival will be “13,” a rock musical presented as part of the theatre’s Theatre Tulsa Family series.

“13” follows young teen Evan Goldman as he deals with divorcing parents, moving to a new school and an upcoming bar mitzvah while he and his friends live through the joys and trials of modern adolescence. Although it has serious themes, “13″ is also a hilarious, high-energy musical for both teens and their parents.

Deco Tulsa is proclaiming the news that the historic McGregor House in Tulsa has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The home at 1401 S. Quaker was built around 1920 and had long been rumored to be a product of the fertile mind of Bruce Goff according to the write up by Rex Brown.

Book Review: Wynne’s War

WynnesWarAaron Gwyn’s “Wynne’s War” is a quickly captivating fast paced new tale of men at war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Illustrating it is not easy to identify the good during battle; the perspective from the ground in this novel weaves a gritty realism, love of horses and morality in conflict with surprising revelations. “Wynne’s War” also shows a reality beyond national headlines in the case of Bowe Bergdahl, the United States Army soldier held captive by the Taliban-aligned Haqqani network in Afghanistan.

Tulsa area readers may be surprised as the hero is local and comfortable in manor and perspective – yes, you may think, a Northeastern Oklahoma country boy would react that way – doing what he thinks is right.

It has been said, “America never wins a war till the boys from the Southwest get there and get tired of it” and this story shows some grains of that truth.
