Shock close tough week with two wins

ShockSparks2TULSA, OK—The Tulsa Shock suffered through a lot this past week, but they managed to close it out with two big wins and keep themselves in the hunt in the WNBA West.

Sunday night the Shock started out cold against the Los Angeles Sparks, but a one point deficit at the end of the first quarter was quickly overcome by the Shock and with the help of a newly healthy teammate’s return, the Shock rallied to top the Sparks 82-67.

The 2015 Oral Roberts University Baseball Team

Updated: It didn’t take long for the Oral Roberts baseball team to retake its spot at the top of The Summit League. Two years removed from 15-straight NCAA appearances, the Golden Eagles dominated league action with a 25-5 mark on their way to a 41-16 overall record.

Challenged with one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation with 15 games against teams with an RPI in the top-100, ORU put together a masterful regular seasons. The Golden Eagles fared especially well against the Big 12, finishing the year 5-1 against the power conference after defeating Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State on the road.

Foundation swings for education

GolfEducation1The 2nd annual “Swing for Education” benefit golf tournament will be held Friday, Sept. 4 at the Fountainhead Creek Golf Course in Checotah.

The tournament was created by the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Higher Education Scholarship Foundation Program (HESFP) to raise money for scholarships to help Muscogee (Creek) students who attend post-secondary institutions.

U.S. Women’s Soccer Team wins World Cup

The U.S. women’s national soccer team overwhelmed Japan, 5-2, at Sunday’s World Cup Final and cemented America’s dominance of women’s soccer as the first nation to win the world championship three times.

The game in Vancouver, British Columbia, was settled quickly as the U.S. took a 4-0 lead inside the game’s first 16 minutes, led by a hat trick from star midfielder Carli Lloyd.

TULSA, OK—The Bruce Ramsay era for the Tulsa Oilers is now over.

The six-year coach of the Tulsa Oilers hockey club is leaving to join friend and former teammate (and former Oklahoma City Barons head coach) Todd Nelson in Grand Rapids, Michigan to serve as the assistant coach of the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
