There aren’t that many games left in the Tulsa Oilers regular season. As of this writing only five games remain and the Oilers are jockeying for the best possible playoff position and that fight is between the Oilers, Quad City, Rapid City and Wichita, so every win and every potential point is becoming critical.

TULSA, OK—The Tulsa Roughnecks FC began their journey in the United Soccer League on Saturday night as they battled the Oklahoma City Energy to a 1-1 draw in front of a sellout crowd of 8,335 at ONEOK Field. Billed as the “Oklahoma Derby”, the inaugural match at ONEOK inspired an electric atmosphere in the stands featuring both from both eras of professional soccer in Tulsa, with the new generation beginning with the ideal in-state rivalry between Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

WICHITA, KS.—The path to ECHL Playoff became a little less crowded on Saturday night as the Oilers traveled North of the Oklahoma-Kansas border to take on the Wichita Thunder for the 11th time this season and easily handled their oldest rivals a 4-1 defeat on the ice in front of 5,008 in the InTrust Bank Arena.

Rookie forward Jeff Jubinville and rookie goalie Kevin Carr continued stellar performances, with Jubinville scoring twice and Carr allowing only one goal on 25 shots.

Roughnecks fall to St. Louis

The Tulsa Roughnecks FC played their first match under the lights of ONEOK Field in in front of 3,273 in an exhibition or “friendly” match against Saint Louis FC on Saturday night unofficially opening the run of the United Soccer League in the Oil Capitol of the World.

But the Sooners are heading to the Sweet 16.

Third-seeded Oklahoma scrapped back from a nine-point, second-half deficit to beat the 11th-seeded Flyers 72-66 on Sunday night at Nationwide Arena.
