Oilers’ Florida road bumps

ESTERO and ORLANDO, FL—The Tulsa Oilers hockey club concluded their one-and-only trip outside of the ECHL Central Division this weekend venturing to the two ECHL teams in the Sunshine State, the Florida Everblades and the Orlando Solar Bears.

They were scheduled to visit the Everblades twice and the Solar Bears once, and in three games the Oilers stunned Florida with a 6-5 shootout win on January 14th, sending a message to the team with the best record in the ECHL East that the upstart Central Division were not to be ignored.  Two days later the Everblades bounced back and handed Tulsa a 4-2 loss.

Tulsa tops Florida in Shootout

ESTERO, FL—The Tulsa Oilers ventured out of the familiar arenas of the ECHL Central Division Wednesday night to take on the Florida Everblades in their first cross-divisional game since joining the ECHL in early October. Tulsa came away with a 6-5 shootout win.

A little under half of the game’s first 20 minutes had gone by when Adam Pleskach capitalized on a mistake by Everblades goalie Allen York.

Pleskach tapped the puck over the line after York misplayed the puck in a clearing attempt to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead.  Three minutes later, at 12:00 of the first period Oilers rookie forward Jeff Jubinville jammed home the rebound of a Scott Macauley to give Tulsa a 2-0 edge.  The shutout for Oilers goalie Kevin Carr was then ruined by Florida forward fter weathering a barrage of shots and sustained pressure from the Everblades, the Oilers orchestrated a pinpoint passing play that concluded with Dave Pszenyczny’s sixth goal of the season.  at 13:15 to cut the Oilers lead to a single goal.

Oilers split another weekend

RAPID CITY, SD—The Tulsa Oilers completed a mid-season swing in Rapid City and came away with three out of four possible standings points. First, Tulsa falls in a shootout on Friday.

It was one of the lower scoring affairs this season for the Oilers, but it took the entire game, overtime and the shootout to decide Friday night’s contest against the Rapid City Rush on Friday night as the Rush topped Tulsa 2-1.  The only goal scorers in regulation were Tulsa’s Tommy Mele (9:32 1st, Lachance), and Rapid City’s Jesse Schultz (3:29 3rd, Ferriero, Huff).

Bochek returns to Oilers

The Tulsa Oilers made a few fans happy as they announced the return of forward Kyle Bocheck to the lineup. The sixth year professional spent the entire season last year in Tulsa, but began the 2014-15 season in jolly old England.

Bochek brings considerable toughness and intensity to the club.

Macauley headed to ECHL All Star Game

The ECHL announced on Thursday afternoon that Tulsa Oilers defenseman Scott Macauley will represent the team at the 2015 ECHL All Star Game to be held in Orlando, FL on Wednesday, January 21st.

Macauley is the only Oiler who will make the trip to the Sunshine State to participate on the All-Star squad, who will play the Orlando Solar Bears in the annual ECHL mid-season classic.
