TULSA, OK—It was fitting that the Tulsa Oilers decided to retire the number of former head coach Garry Unger on Friday night because it was he who rendered a quote earlier in the day,  eerily prophetic of what was to happen in the game following the ceremony.

Unger said, “There’s no easy games, it doesn’t matter if you have the best team in the league, there’s nobody who can’t come in here and beat you.”

TULSA, OK—It was an evening of goal tending greatness on the part of Oilers rookie net minder Brady Hjelle as he made 33 saves on 34 Brampton Beast shots to backstop the Tulsa Oilers to a 4-1 victory in front of 6,340 in the BOK Center on Friday night.  The Oilers were fresh off a 7-4 win over the Wichita Thunder on Wednesday night while Brampton dropped a 5-2 decision to the Mavericks on Tuesday night.

The only black mark for Hjelle was the Beast’s only goal of the game, which sparked a review by the officials as Hjelle believed that the goal had gone in off of a linesman’s skate on a ricochet that allowed Brampton forward Stephon Thome to score at 2:16 of the first period.  Referee Brett Sheva discussed the matter with his linesmen and determined that the goal would stand.

TULSA, OK—The sleepy power play unit of the Tulsa Oilers hockey club came alive on Wednesday night against the Wichita Thunder as the home team scored three power play goals against their oldest rival from the Central Hockey League in route to a 7-4 victory in front of 3,026 in the BOK Center.

It was a game that hearkened back to the older days of the rivalry in that it was physical, with brutal hits being dished out on both sides. The Oilers came into the game off of a 2-1 loss to Missouri last Saturday night while the Thunder ventured outside of the ECHL Central division for a game against the Elmira Jackals where they handed them a 5-1 loss in a penalty-riddled game where there were many fights, including a goalie fight.
