Voter Registration Deadline: October 14

Vote2016aFriday, October 14, is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the November 8, 2016 Federal, State & County General Election & the City of Tulsa General Election (Council Districts 1, 2, & 9 only), Tulsa County Election Board Secretary Patty Bryant said today.

Bryant said that persons who are United States citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 18 years old may apply to become registered voters.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), cosponsored the Taking Responsibility Using Secured Technologies (TRUST) Act (S.3135), which would revoke former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s security clearance as well as the security clearances of Sec. Clinton’s colleagues at the State Department who exhibited extreme carelessness in their handling of classified information.

The TRUST Act also expresses the sense of Congress that Sec. Clinton should not have access to classified information again until she earns the legal right to such access.

The Oklahoma Senate Joint Committee on Appropriations and Budget Thursday approved three additional measures aimed at helping close the budget gap for the 2017 fiscal year budget.  The measures approved by the committee reform various tax credits and incentive programs, generating new revenues for the state.

Cougars too much for TU

TUfootballHouston15aTULSA, OK—A crowd of 17,146 saw the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane fall to the Houston Cougars 38-24 on Saturday afternoon. Both teams were opening conference play in The American and looking for their first win.

The Golden Hurricane were defeated last week in Norman when the OU Sooners handed them a 52-38 loss. The Cougars came into the game sitting on a perfect 3-0 record, with their last game defeating Texas State 59-14.

Oklahomans support asset forfeiture reform

CivilAssetForfeiturePoll1 Sen. Kyle D. Loveless (R-OKC) today joined with the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, the Oklahoma Policy Institute, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma at the state Capitol to release the results of a recent poll commissioned by OCPA and the OKPolicy.

The poll, conducted by SoonerPoll, asked participants a series of questions relating to civil asset forfeiture and law enforcement. 81 percent of respondents had a favorable view of law enforcement officers and 70 percent (69.9%) support legislation requiring a criminal conviction before the government can take ownership of personal property.
