Hard work pays off for the Tulsa Oilers

TULSA, OK– Big wins bring big props, and that statement is certainly true after the weekend the Tulsa Oilers hockey club had.

After decisive wins over divisional rivals the Oilers went 2-0 on the week making light work of both the Arizona Sundogs and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Tulsa used the second period to catapult themselves to blowout wins combining to outscore the opposition 7-0 in the middle frame. The four-point weekend for Tulsa has them tied for fourth place in the Berry Conference.

On Friday, the Oilers beat the Sundogs 9-3 with Jack Combs scoring four points including a hat trick and Chad Costello netting a pair of goals and three assists. On Saturday, the Oilers beat the Mudbugs for the first time since March 18, 2008 (16 straight games). Tulsa defenseman Tyler Fleck scored a pair of goals in the win over the ‘Bugs marking the first time since Nov. 21, 2009.

Trevor Cann has made his way back from the AHL and has been outstanding in net for the Oilers going 3-1-0 since being re-assigned and he is 6-2-0 with a .921 save percentage on the season.

In addition to the team recognition The Central Hockey League announced today that Tulsa forward Jack Combs has been honor as the CHL Player of The Week presented by Oakley for the week ending January 16, 2011.

Combs helped fuel the Oilers big weekend that saw them dismantle both the Arizona Sundogs (9-3) and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (7-3). The St. Louis, Missouri native scored a hat trick and had an assist in Friday’s thumping of the Sundogs and then followed that up with a goal and an assist versus the Mudbugs. For the week, Combs had four goals and two assists and was a +5.

His recent hot goal scoring stretch has vaulted the 5-11, 193-pound forward to the top of the league totalling 24 goals and his 45 points are tied for seventh in the league. Combs has scored nine goals in his last six games.

Combs and his teammates hope to continue the roll on this Friday night when they host the Laredo Bucks at the amazing mother ship (BOK Center).
