No Bull: Oilers beat Brahmas in shootout 2-1.

Berry Conference shuffles with Oilers win.alt

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX.– Veteran forward Marty Standish scored the backbreaker goal for the Tulsa Oilers Saturday night, giving them their fourth win in a row and a crucial victory over the Texas Brahmas, a team they have been tied in the Berry Conference points race for the better part of the last two months.

Standish’s goal capped off a tight game between the two conference rivals. The only goal for Texas came in the second period from Chris Moran on the power play, assisted by Ross Rouleau and Darryl McArthur. The newest member of the Tulsa Oilers, Mike Wiril, knotted the game at 1 apiece with a power play goal of his own at 4:49, assisted by Chad Costello and Sean Erickson.

Tulsa would go 1-for-6 on the power play, and the Brahmas went 1-for-8 in the game. A scoreless overtime session gave way to the shootout, where Standish dropped into hero mode with the pivotal 5th round marker against Texas goalie Wayne Savage. Oilers goalie Ian Keserich stoned all 5 Brahmas shooters in the tiebreaker.

The Oilers victory set them in sole possession of 3rd place in the Berry Conference with 43 points, and broke a three way tie with Texas and Odessa. Laredo pulled off a stunning 5-1 win over the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs, whom the Oilers now trail by just one standings point for second place in the conference.

The Oilers will be in action at home next Tuesday night in the BOK Center against the Colorado Eagles at 7:05pm.
