Since its inception in 2003, the Oklahoma Aquarium has provided hands-on learning to homeschool students and parents through its quarterly Homeschool Days. These are days where homeschool students and parents can visit the Aquarium at the reduced educational rate and attend special activities provided by the education department.
Homeschool days are a chance for families to see thousands of creatures, from the smallest invertebrates to the largest bull sharks, and educators also focus on creating an enhanced learning experience. Aquarium education staff members are stationed in “themed” activity and information stations where students learn about aquatic life and science.
“Not only do homeschools parents and students receive the discounted rate to visit a one-of-a-kind aquarium and educational facility, they receive special programming and activities geared to stimulate inquisitive student minds,” said Ann Money, Curator of Education Programs and Research. “The programs and activity stations are meant to accompany and bolster those important standards of science taught in the homeschool environment.”
The next Homeschool Day is Wednesday, December 10, 2014.Reduced admission is offered from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and information and activities are from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For more information, visit www.okaquarium.org, or call 918-296-(FISH).
