Hanson Kicking off New Tour At Cain’s

Tulsa-bred Hanson is kicking off their new Use Your Sole tour at the Cain’s Ballroom on Wednesday.

The group, made up of brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac, are best known for the 1997 hit song "MMMBop"  from their first major album – Middle of Nowhere. They earned three Grammy nominations, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Besides their music, the brothers had a well-publicized split with their label, Island Def Jam Records, which was highlighted in the documentary film, Strong Enough To Break. Hanson now records for their own independent label, 3CG Records.

The group also has spent a great deal of time bringing awareness of AIDS and poverty in Africa. They partnered with TOMS Shoes’ "Shoe Drop" campaign, where the company donated one pair of shoes to a child in Africa for every one sold. During one tour, Hanson would ask fans to join them in a one-mile barefoot walk prior to each concert.

As part of the new tour, fans will get the chance to select a song for the group to play during selected stops by visiting the band’s web site: www.hanson.net

The Use Your Sole tour also includes HelloGoodbye!

Advanced tickets are $32 and $35 the day of the show. Doors open at 6 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here.

Parking Laws To Be Enforced During Tulsa Fair

altTulsa police say they will “strictly enforce” parking laws and other ordinances during the upcoming Tulsa State Fair to ensure streets are open for emergency vehicles.

The fair at Expo Square runs from Oct. 1-Oct. 11.

Each year, the city is flooded with calls about blocked streets and alleys, as well as illegal parking in yards and sidewalks and in marked “no parking” areas.

Parking is prohibited within 10 feet of a fire hydrant, in yards and between curbs and sidewalks.

Fair organizers and the city are providing alternative parking sites and free shuttle transport between the sites and the fairgrounds.

In addition to the free parking available on the fairgrounds property, there are five remote sites with free Park and Ride shuttle service provided by Transportation Solutions (TranSol). The free Park and Ride is only available on weekends. Those sites include:

• Tulsa Promenade Mall: 41st Street and Yale Avenue, south covered parking garage
• Hale High School, 6960 E. 21st St.
• Tulsa Public Schools Education Service Center: 3027 S. New Haven Ave.
• Broken Arrow Centennial Middle School, 225 E. Omaha St.
• Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus, 3727 E. Apache St.

The shuttles are scheduled to run both weekends – Oct. 2-4 and Oct. 9-11. The hours are set to start at 6 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. on Saturday, and noon on Sundays. Shuttles will run through midnight each day except Sunday, when they will stop at 11 p.m. Frequency will vary by location ranging from every 15 minutes to 30 minutes.

According to a press release, illegal parking can result in fines ranging from $15 to $50. Illegally parked vehicles can be towed at the owner’s expense if parked in areas marked with “Tow Away Zone” signs or if they are obstructing normal traffic flow.

Illegal parking in yards during the fair can result in fines beginning at $50 for the vehicle owner and up to $500 to the property owner providing the parking space, the release said.

Problems with illegal parking or blocked or partially obstructed streets can be reported to the Mayor’s Action Center at 596-2100 or by emailing: mac@cityoftulsa.org.

U.S. Sens. Endorse Bartlett For Mayor

U.S. Sens. Jim Inhofe and Tom Coburn, M.D., have endorsed Dewey Bartlett Jr. in Tulsa’s mayor race.

In prepared statements, the two Republican Oklahoma senators said Bartlett’s business experience makes him the best candidate.

"Dewey has the private sector perspective outside of politics that makes him the best choice for mayor," Coburn stated.  "He has provided leadership in his industry, he has executive experience, and he offers the best choice for Tulsa’s future.

"Dewey’s dedication to and love for Tulsa can be seen in his years of volunteerism and civic involvement," Coburn said.

Inhofe, a former Tulsa mayor himself, added, "Republicans and conservative Democrats in Tulsa should unite behind Dewey because he will lead the city based on conservative principles.

"Dewey is the candidate who can lead the city in terms of creating an environment for citizens to pursue opportunities for growth and prosperity," Inhofe said.

The mayoral election is Tuesday, Nov. 10.Bartlett faces Tom Adelson, the winner of the Democratic primary, and independents Mark Perkins and Lawrence Kirkpatrick.
"Dewey is the best choice for the job," stated Inhofe and Coburn.

State Officials To Host Town Hall Health Care Forum

altThree area state representatives will hold a town hall meeting on heath care in Broken Arrow.

The forum is sponsored by State Sen. Bill Brown and state Reps. Mike Ritze, D.O., and John Trebilcock . The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Arrow Heights Baptist Church, 3201 S. Elm Place in Broken Arrow.

“Senator Brown, Representative Trebilcock and I will be presenting a discussion of the health care issues at stake under the ObamaCare plan,” Ritze, R-Broken Arrow, said. “As a physician, I am aware of many of the problems in our health care system, but at the same time believe the federal approach being sought will only exacerbate current problems and will create an undeniable tax burden for future generations.”

Ritze said that he will be looking not only to critique the proposed federal plan, but also offer some alternative solutions.

“There are laws that get in the way of competition between health care providers and it is also important to address the portability of health care from job to job,” Ritze said. “I believe there are zero-cost solutions to many of our health care problems, and I will be presenting those as well.”

Brown, R-Broken Arrow, is the chairman of the Senate Retirement and Insurance Committee. He said that not only is the federal plan folly, but that it will be hard to reverse.

“The plan will take billions of dollars out of Medicare and raise taxes considerably,” Brown said. “We won’t be able to get that money back. Not only that, but as many of my constituents know, once the government gets involved in a particular industry, it’s hard to get them back out.”

Trebilcock, R-Broken Arrow, is the chairman of the House Public Health Committee.

“It’s important to talk with constituents about important issues,” Trebilcock said. “Health care is a very worthy topic and I look forward to offering my own perspective on the problems with the ObamaCare plan.”
