In the 75 days from the filing deadline of April 11th to the June 24th primary election day, Jason Carini, a 31-year-old Catoosa small business owner, went from having zero chance of being elected to becoming Rogers County treasurer-elect, unseating a likable 23-year incumbent twice his age, Cathy Pinkerton-Baker.

How did this happen? There are these factors in political change: an idea, a personality, and events. In this remarkable election, all came into play.

TULSA, OKLAHOMA— Moises Alberto Yanez, 40, of Tulsa, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Claire V. Eagan on Friday, to serve 240 months in prison for conspiracy to commit money laundering, announced United States Attorney Danny C. Williams Sr. and R. Damon Rowe, Special Agent in Charge of Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation.

According to court documents, from June 2011 through November 2012, Yanez admitted to making rental payments on two properties in Tulsa that were rented for the purpose of storing and distributing marijuana and methamphetamine.

Analysis: The most dishonest public official ever elected in Tulsa County may be retired in the Primary Election this Tuesday. Let us all vote so.

In short – Tulsa County Assessor Ken Yazel is crazy as a loon, but with a small group of rabid followers represents the parasites on the extreme tip of the right wing of politics in our community. They weave conspiracy theories to advance personal agendas repeatedly disproven and Yazel is their Master beating his drum of distain and division.

Primary preview: District Attorney race to court

DARace1The Tulsa County Election Ballot next Tuesday June 24 will list in order, Brian A. Crain, Steve Kunzweiler and Fred Jordan, but one has withdrawn and the court will decide who is eligible – an interesting twist in this race to become Tulsa County’s top defender of Law and the Oklahoma Constitution.

Article V, Section 23 of the Oklahoma Constitution reads: “No member of the Legislature shall, during the term for which he was elected, be appointed or elected to any office or commission in the State, which shall have been created, or the emoluments of which shall have been increased, during his term of office.”

Students flock to Tulsa for community service

GoBe Nearly 200 junior high and high school students from all over the country will be traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma June 23-27 to participate in a number of service projects throughout town.

The groups will be joining Joplin, MO-based Christ In Youth’s Engage: Service team and partnering with Tulsa-based Project Elf – an organization that works with Tulsa Schools to help students receive supplies, clothes and even food, among other things. The organization was founded by Terri Hozhabri and currently includes more than 140 volunteers from throughout Tulsa.
