Tulsa pension board suggests changes

PensionPulseWhat does Tulsa owe – in pensions $119 million.  Yes, as pensions are threatening cities across America the polite term for this approaching disaster is called “unfunded liabilities.”  See Detroit for more detail.

The report by Kevin Canfield in the Tulsa World today is mild and notes no reponsibility by city unions.

By way of context, the City of Tulsa must negotiate with seven different unions. This was made possible by President John F. Kennedy (JFK) who by executive order reversed a policy by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) thereby allowing unionization of public workers.  FDR asserted unions by their nature are contrary to public service and a danger to the government.  Both presidents were elected as Democrats – a sad side note at best.

Analysis: The race for Mayor has exhausted the public and revealed the candidates in oppressive detail.  Former-mayor-candidate-again Kathy Taylor, a national Democrat operative, is spending millions more than the job pays, obsessively controlling her message and spying on her opponent.

Thank God she doesn’t work for the Department of Homeland Security, NSA or fly drones like her friend President Obama.

Reading Partners, a national education nonprofit organization that provides volunteer-led literacy tutoring to students reading behind grade level, welcomed Oklahoma State Senator Jabar Shumate of District 11 to one of its newly launched reading centers this month. Reading Partners delivers an effective, research-validated program that has helped thousands of children master the fundamental reading skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.

Shumate visited the organization’s reading center at Anderson Elementary this month to observe how the literacy program was being implemented during Reading Partners’ first year of operation in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Shumate was born and raised in Tulsa, and is a key advocate for students in the Senate District 11.

AG to investigate Rogers County allegations

ScottPruittAGspeakingIn response to multiple allegations of wrongdoing by public officials and others in Rogers County, Attorney General Scott Pruitt on Friday directed the state’s multicounty grand jury to launch an investigation into the accusations.

“As the chief legal officer of Oklahoma, one of my top priorities is to protect the integrity of our legal system,” General Pruitt said.

Casino expansion billed ‘game changer’

After unveiling an agreement earlier this year between Buffet’s Margaritaville franchise and RiverSpirit Casino, tribal and local officials announced Tuesday afternoon at a ground-breaking ceremony that the expansion tied to the overhaul will be bigger than first disclosed.
