Ellis Paul concert and Woody Guthrie benefit

Woody Guthrie

Woody Guthrie

Ellis Paul, an Advisory Board member of the Woody Guthrie Coalition, will perform a fundraiser concert for WoodyFest, March 5, at the Crystal Theatre in Okemah, OK.

Paul has a long history with Okemah and the festival, having performed at the first festival in 1998 when he was also made an honorary citizen of Okemah. A WoodyFest “regular”, Paul has many connections to Woody Guthrie from sporting a tattoo of Woody on his shoulder, to composing music to Woody’s lyrics to “God’s Promise”, to touring in Jimmy LaFave’s Ribbon of Highway, Endless Skyway Woody Guthrie tribute show. Paul has performed at 17 out of 18 of the annual WoodyFests, having missed the 2004 festival due to the birth of his first child.

Lindsey Stirling makes that point in music with her rendition of “Hallelujah” — with video showing her performing the song on a New York City subway platform; images of a miniature nativity are interspersed throughout.
