Oilers’ Caig Named Oakley CHL Award Winner

Tulsa Oilers right winger T.J. Caig helped lead the team to a 9-2-1 record in the month of November.

He’s had 11 goals and 12 assists for 23 points and had a stretch of four straight 3-point games.

Caig is also a key player in the rebirth of the team’s winning ways.  Now the CHL has recognized his efforts again in naming him the Oakley CHL Three Stars award winner.

The way the CHL determines the winner goes like this; if you are selected as the first star of the game you get 5 points towards the award.  Caig did that three times in November, for 15 points.  If you are chosen 2nd start you receive three points; Caig got that nod three times as well for 9 points.  Had Caig been chosen as a 3rd star he would have received one point,   Caig’s 24 points for the month outdistanced his competitors by a wide margin,  most of whom had 13 points.

The Oilers travel to South Dakota to take on the Rapid City Rush this weekend , then they are in Allen, Texas next Friday to take on the Americans in a rematch of the Oilers 4-0 shutout back on November 3rd.  Those games can be heard on an internet broadcast at tulsaoilers.com  The Oilers next home game will be another rematch, as they take on the defending CHL champion Texas Brahmas on December 12th.

Tickets for all Oilers home games can be purchased at tulsaoilers.com, the BOK Center box office, and all Reasors locations.

Trivium Thrashing The Cain’s

Heavy metal, metalcore, thrash metal and even death metal fans can now rejoice. Trivium is hitting the Cain’s Ballroom Saturday.

With four studio albums to their credit, including the latest – Shogun – the group has played major music festivals, including Ozzfest and the Download Festival. They were also an opening act for Iron Maiden during a European tour.

"Shogun" may arguably bring the band to the forefront of their genre. Working with renown producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters/Death Angel), the album has everything from tales of ancient Japan to Greek Mythology.

As the band says on their web site, "There is a moment for every great band when everything comes together and a definitive musical identity emerges. For Trivium, this is it. The collaboration with Raskulinecz has taken Trivium to new compositional and technical levels, while the album’s brutal, bone-shattering production means that they’ve never sounded heavier or more powerful.

"With lashings of vicious riffs that celebrate the band’s love of death, black and thrash metal, alongside the most incisive and memorable melodies the quartet have ever written, Shogun is a monstrous achievement that promises to have the cynics and naysayers choking on their toast."

Opening acts for the Tulsa show are Chimaira and White Chapel.

Advanced tickets are $22.75 and $25.25 the day of the show. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show slated to start at 7:30 p.m.

Get Your Own Police Cruiser

If you ever wanted your own police cruiser, now’s your chance. Something bigger? You can bid on a dump truck as well.

The city of Tulsa is auctioning off 200 vehicles as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the city’s operating costs.

The auction will be Dec. 12 at the city’s surplus property facility, 108 N. Trenton. That site is two blocks north and one block west of the I-244 and Utica Avenue intersection.

Vehicles up for bid include police cruisers, min vans and full-sized vans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, as well as tractors, dump trucks, flat-bed trucks and other rolling stock.

“In the ongoing effort to reduce expenses and streamline processes for greater efficiency, I asked Fire Chief Allan LaCroix to lead a team of Purchasing and Equipment Management Department staff to identify vehicles that were not efficiently used and could be sold without impacting services,” said Mayor Kathy Taylor. "The result will be a leaner operation with reduced maintenance costs and lower fuel usage."

Vehicles may be inspected on Friday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday, Dec. 12, the auction site will open at 8 a.m. and the auction begins at 10 a.m.

Cash, Mastercards and Visa cards are accepted. Checks can be accepted only if accompanied by a letter of guaranty from the financial institution on which the check is drawn. Payment is required in full within one hour after the auction ends.

Sales are subject to applicable local and state taxes, unless a sales tax permit is provided with proof of regular engagement in the re-sale business only for items purchased. An Oklahoma Tax Commission auditor may be present.

No one under the age of 16 may be admitted onto the City surplus property facility grounds. Questions about the auction can be directed to the City of Tulsa’s Finance Department at 596-7233.
