66ers complete D-League draft lottery

The Tulsa 66ers are another step closer to opening their 2010-11 NBA D-League season. The sixers participated in the D-League draft lottery on Tuesday during the league’s annual coaches meetings in Dallas.alt Tulsa, fresh off of a runner-up finish and the best season in franchise history, will pick at the 13th position in the first round.

The Reno Bighorns won the lottery and will pick first in the eight-round serpentine format draft that will take place via teleconference from the league headquarters in New York on November 1. New Mexico, Maine, Texas and Springfield round out the top five.

“The lottery is always an exciting time because it signals the tip-off of a new NBA D-League season,” said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the league. “With the draft order in place, teams are one step closer to determining their opening day rosters for the 2010-11 season,” he added.

The serpentine format alternates the order in each round of the draft. If a team picks first in the first round they will select last in the second round, then first in the third round. Sixteen teams will participate in the 2010-11 season.

In addition to the 13th pick in the first round, the 66ers will also select 20th, 45th, 52nd, 77th, 84th, 109th and 116th. Tulsa will open the season Friday, November 19 at Bakersfield. Their home opener is scheduled for Friday, November 26.

Obama’s Thinking Revealed

Updated: President Obama campaigned on glittering generalities and won as sobering sophomoric sycophant media refused to delve into the foundations of his beliefs.  The resulting public confusion ended recently in a stunning analysis by Dinesh D’Souza published by Forbes titled, “How Obama Thinks” that, when combined with statements by Obama and administration officials, are totally anti-American.

Referencing The Weekly Standard summary of Obama’s approach as “omnipotence at home, impotence abroad,” D’Souza begins with observations of behavior that have befuddled both critics and supporters.  Why is Barack Obama the most antibusiness president in history?  Why does he feel a compelling need for government to take over home mortgages, investment banking, student loan programs, health care, autos and energy?

Why did Obama support taxpayer funding of $2 billion in offshore drilling in Brazil?  Why is the drilling moratorium against American offshore drilling still in effect?  Why does Obama continue to push for stimulus even though hundreds of billions of dollars have done nothing to boost employment?  Why would he support a mosque at Ground Zero?

According to D’Souza, we have all been blinded by trying to fit Obama into some version of American history.  Obama’s history is that of a man who spent the first 17 years of his life off the American mainland.  “What is his dream?  Is it the American dream? Is it Martin Luther King’s dream? Or something else,” he asks.

“We don’t have to speculate because the President tells us himself in his autobiography, Dreams from My Father.  According to Obama, his dream is his father’s dream.  Notice that his title is not Dreams of My Father, but rather Dreams from My Father.  Obama isn’t writing about his father’s dreams; he is writing about the dreams he received from his father,” D’Souza writes.

“So who was Barack Obama Sr.?  He was a Luo tribesman who grew up in Kenya and studied at Harvard.  He was a polygamist who had, over the course of his lifetime, four wives and eight children.  One of his sons, Mark Obama, has accused him of abuse and wife-beating.

"He was also a regular drunk driver who got into numerous accidents, killing a man in one and causing his own legs to be amputated due to injury in another.  In 1982 he got drunk at a bar in Nairobi and drove into a tree, killing himself.  An odd choice, certainly, as an inspirational hero, but to his son, the elder Obama represented a great and noble cause, the cause of anticolonialism.

“It may seem incredible to suggest that the anticolonial ideology of Barack Obama Sr. is espoused by his son, the President of the United States,” D’Souza writes.  “That is what I am saying.  From a very young age and through his formative years, Obama learned to see America as a force for global domination and destruction.  He came to view America’s military as an instrument of neocolonial occupation.  He adopted his father’s position that capitalism and free markets are code words for economic plunder.  Obama grew to perceive the rich as an oppressive class, a kind of neocolonial power within America.  In his worldview, profits are a measure of how effectively you have ripped off the rest of society, and America’s power in the world is a measure of how selfishly it consumes the globe’s resources and how ruthlessly it bullies and dominates the rest of the planet.  For Obama, the solutions are simple.  He must work to wring the neocolonialism out of America and the West.”

As a native of Mumbai, India, D’sSouza is intimately knowledgeable of anitcolonial doctrine.  He defines it, “Anticolonialism is the doctrine that rich countries of the West got rich by invading, occupying and looting poor countries of Asia, Africa and South America.  As one of Obama’s acknowledged intellectual influences, Frantz Fanon, wrote in The Wretched of the Earth, ‘The well-being and progress of Europe have been built up with the sweat and the dead bodies of Negroes, Arabs, Indians and the yellow races.’"

The entire article is well worth your serious consideration and reflects views more fully covered in his forthcoming book, “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” (Regnery Publishing).  Dinesh D’Souza is the president of the King’s College in New York City.  You may reach the Forbes article by clicking here.

Also powerfully reveling is a recently posted collage of video clips of President Obama’s key advisors, appointees, and policy czars.  Many of these clips have been seen on various Fox News Network programs – especially Glenn Beck.  However, Beck did not make the clips, only report on and broadcast them.

In fact, candidate Barack Hussein Obama said we could judge him by the
people who surround him.  From this video clip, Americans should be very
concerned that Constitutional guarantees of individual liberty are very
much at risk from the current administration.  Click here to reach the video collage

On September 17, President Obama spoke to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute 33rd Annual Award Gala. During his speech – reading from a teleprompter – he quoted from the Declaration of Independence. Here is what he said: "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, endowed with certain unalienable rights, life and liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Obama omitted the words "by their Creator" from his speech.  Why?  Given the fact that he was using a teleprompter, We can only conclude that this was intentional. Either he, or his speechwriter, did not want to give credit to Almighty God. This kind of action would be in step with modern secular liberalism that is hostile to the Christian faith. To see a video clip of this event, click here.  For a more detailed analysis of why Obama invites questions on his faith by Dr. Paul Kengor, click here.

Funny thing, this writer on this domain warned you about Obama in a May 2008 piece titled, “Obama fails the first questions.”  Not wanting to brag or anything, I upped the ante in October 2008 with an article “Obama’s most significant statement.” Click here to read that story.

In summary, President Obama doesn’t believe the things most Americans understand as common to our culture.  American Exceptionalism is not about bureaucracy, but free individuals in a free market creating products and services that generate consumer demand thus profiting society and the purse – the creator’s own and others.  The Left doesn’t understand God’s creation or the creation of creativity.  Neither is safe or productive in any kind of government directed "top down" organization which, by nature, only sees the limit of existing circumstance.

It is a historically unproven myth that utopia can be achieved by a "ruling elite" with control and command of resources, production, and capital.  History calls that Communism, but it is so very attractive to those who believe they are or can become our rulers.

As the ruling elite show themselves nationally, understand that local conservative journalism organizations like Tulsa Today are also under attack from the same types of elite in government and media.  When not ignoring us, they marginalize then demonize, but we continue as the oldest independent online news service in America – utilizing worldwide communications to connect neighbors and expatriates since 1996.  Media and politicians may hate us, but read here and listen to the David Arnett Show on AM 740 and FM 102.3 news talk KRMG because we are not even moderately restrained by the tyranny of political correctness.

We will continue to fight for what we believe is true, just and right according to the Constitution of the United States of America.  We stand for God and Country and believe from the heart “that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

It is sad that the current President of the United States does not believe the same, but he is only a temporary manager after all.  Now that we know him, maybe more temporary than anyone first thought.

2010 Rock & Rib Fest a saucy good time.

The smell of hickory and mesquite hung heavy at 3rd and Denver downtown as the 2nd annual Rock & Rib Fest was held this weekend just outside of the amazing BOK Center.

Designed to ring in the start of the BOK Center’s anniversary celebrations, the festival showcased 7 professional BBQ teams from across the country. Each team offered a selection of barbecue items, to include brisket, pulled pork, smokled sausages, bologna, ham and the signature dish, BBQ ribs.

The street alongside the BOK Center was awash with color as the teams set up their stands to sell their delectable items, many of them sporting banners from past victories on the competitive BBQ circuit. The teams also brought with them huge smokers and grills, most of them working through the night to produce the perfect combination of smoke, spice and meat.

The festival also featured several stages on which local bands added the rock part of the Rock & Rib Fest, and the grounds also had a kids zone and a mechanical bull that people could test their best Urban Cowboy chops.

The 2010 “Best Of Show” award for this years Rock & Rib fest was won by the Cowboys BBQ team out of Ft. Worth, Texas. Next up on the BOK Center’s anniversary celebrations include a huge week of concerts, including Rush on Tuesday night and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on Thursday, September 23rd.
