Oilers fall to Eagles 2-1.

Last second goal gives Eagles the win.alt

LOVELAND, CO.– It has been nearly two weeks since the Tulsa Oilers last won a hockey game. The Oilers last victory was on October 16th when they defeated the Wichita Thunder 4-1 in the InTrust Bank Arena in downtown Wichita.

Since then the boys in blue haven’t done so well. The only points they’ve amassed since then were a single point for an overtime loss to the Bloomington Prairie Thunder last Saturday night. A 4-1 drubbing by the Colorado Eagles in the Oilers 2nd game at home this season last Tuesday night added to their woes.

A flurry of roster activity preceded the Oilers road trip for a rematch with the Eagles on Friday night. First, goalie Trevor Cann was recalled to the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL when the Monsters goalie John Grahme was sent to the Colorado Avalanche in relief of their injured starter Craig Anderson.

Then, the Monsters assigned forward Tom Fritsche and the Oilers also signed Derek Hulak. Finally, Archie Henderson was signed as a backup goalie to Tyler Sims, and forward Matt Henderson was waived.

With all that done, head coach Bruce Ramsay and his Oilers set out for northern Colorado in search of their first win in two weeks. Things looked hopeful when Chad Costello scored at 17:24 of the first period, assists going to Harrison Reed and Sean Erickson. Colorado quickly answered 22 seconds later when Steve Haddon put one past Tyler Sims with Kevin Ulanski assisting.

In the end, with all but one second remaining on the clock in the Budweiser Events Center, Steve Haddon scored his second of the night, dashing the Oilers hopes of even a point in overtime. The Oilers fall to 2-3-1 with 5 standings points. They are now tied with the Laredo Bucks for 4th place in the Berry Conference standings The Bucks will play the Odessa Jackalopes tomorrow night.

Tomorrow night the Oilers will take on the Wichita Thunder in the first of two straight games that will conclude on Sunday afternoon in the BOK Center. Tickets for Sunday’s game and all of the Tulsa Oilers home games are on sale now at the BOK Center box office.
