Reddit co-founder commits suicide

The New York Post is reporting that the Internet genius behind the popular Web site Reddit.com committed suicide at his Brooklyn home, according to police sources and friends.
Cops discovered Aaron Swartz unconscious at 9:30 a.m. and are now investigating whether he hanged himself, law enforcement sources said.
Swartz helped create Reddit and drafted an early version of the RSS format, a “Web feed” that syndicates popular headlines. Friends yesterday called him a prolific intellectual — and a computer geek legend — who had long suffered from depression.
Bill to address spending at Insurance Department

Spurred by recent actions taken by the Oklahoma Insurance Department, Sen. Harry Coates will be filing legislation to prevent the department and any other state agencies from wasting taxpayer money on unnecessary travel expenditures.
The bill will prohibit any statewide officials besides the Governor and Lt. Governor from chartering state aircraft. Since getting into office, Insurance Commissioner John Doak has been the only statewide official to charter the planes besides Gov. Fallin and Lt. Governor Lamb. Doak has used the aircraft to travel around Oklahoma to survey storm damage as well as attend speaking engagements and various meetings with citizens, insurance agents and community leaders – a service Coates pointed out that the former Insurance Commissioner never found necessary, nor any other statewide elected officials.

Anderson proposes flat tax of 2.95%

Oklahoma’s Sen. Patrick Anderson has filed Senate Bill 240 to replace Oklahoma’s current income tax structure with a flat tax of 2.95%.
Anderson asserts flat tax plan is simple, fair, and revenue neutral. Additionally, the plan would result in Oklahoma having the lowest income tax rate in the nation, among the 43 states that do impose an income tax.
SB 240 would eliminate all current income tax deductions, credits, and exemptions. Under the proposal, the state income tax rate would be cut nearly in half, and yet there would be no loss of revenue to state government. The Oklahoma Tax Commission has reviewed the numbers and determined that a flat rate of 2.95%, as Anderson has proposed, would be revenue neutral.
