Oklahoma Primary voting begins this week

TulsaVoteSmartEarly voting begins this week for Oklahoma primary contests. Several of those races will have national impact, but state, county and city races are also critical in the course government will take on significant policy issues.

A new state law which took effect on November 1, 2013, changes the dates and times as early voting now begins on Thursday and continues on Friday and Saturday. Early voting is no longer conducted on Monday.

Crain drops out of district attorney race

The race to replace Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris was whittled to two Friday after State Senator Brian Crain voluntarily withdrew the Tulsa World is reporting.

Crain said he had pulled out of the race, leaving state Rep. Fred Jordan and chief Tulsa County prosecutor Steve Kunzweiler as the remaining candidates.

Crain told the Tulsa World he discovered Thursday morning that a judicial pay raise, approved by the state Legislature on Wednesday, had made him ineligible.

Run, Ride, Rock and Roll

FullMoonRun2Saturday, May 17, 2014 marks the 27th annual Full Moon 5k Run/Walk and 1‐mile family fun run. The Full Moon Run is hosted by the Full Moon Café and will again benefit River Parks Authority. Net proceeds from the event are contributed toward operations and capital improvements at River Parks. The Full Moon Run has
contributed a cumulative donation of more than $80,000 over the past decade. Proceeds from this year’s event will help maintain Park elements and amenities.

Street School receives grant

StreetSchool(Tulsa, Okla.) – Street School received a grant from Women Impacting Tulsa Grantmaking Fund (WIT) to assist with the school’s therapeutic counseling program. WIT Chair Courtnie Tidwell and Tulsa Community Foundation Program Coordinator, Jane Ziegler presented a check to Street School’s Executive Director Lori McGinnis-Madland at the school on Monday in the amount of $6,750.
