The Woody Guthrie Coalition which presents the annual Woody Guthrie Folk Festival has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help defray the cost of the 20th annual festival scheduled July 12-16, 2017 in Okemah,OK.
The last several years have been a challenge financially as the costs of travel and lodging have increased. After 17 years of providing a free festival, in 2015 the event in Woody Guthrie’s hometown was forced to charge an admission fee, but organizers report they still struggle to stay afloat. As Stevie Nicks “24 Karat Gold Tour” With Special Guests Pretenders winds down for the year with eight shows left, Live Nation, the tour’s promoter has announced 20 new shows beginning February 23, 2017 in Reno, Nevada. The tour will make a stop at BOK Center in Tulsa on Monday, March 6.
This coming Friday evening Norman North and Tulsa Union will battle for the state 6A-1 championship, the largest football class in Oklahoma. The two state senators who represent those schools have made a friendly wager on which team will take the championship. Sen. Rob Standridge, R-Norman, will be cheering for Norman North, while Sen. Dave Rader, R-Tulsa, is betting Tulsa Union comes out on top. The senator whose school is defeated will donate $100 to the winning school’s education foundation.
