Garth Brooks on new platform of choice

GarthBrooksTourAs Tulsans ready to welcome home Garth Brooks, his music has finally become available digitally. Brooks had resisted digital platforms, but September 4th in Chicago he announced he was going digital by launching his own digital company – GhostTunes LLC which allows an artist to select how their songs or albums are sold – a control in presentation factor very important to Brooks and many other artists.

The third best-selling artist in the history of music; Garth Brooks insisted that he did not want to piecemeal his material out in individual songs, but sell his music digitally as entire albums.  The album concept of message progression in presentation – a movement of music and meaning – is cherished by many in the industry.  GhostTunes allows the artist this control.

The Weekly Fishing Report released today by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation has good news for hearty fisher folk.

NORTHEAST

Ft. Gibson: December 4. Elevation above normal, water 45 and clear. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 15-20 ft. along creek channels, docks and coves. Blue, flathead and channel catfish fair on cut bait and shad at 15 ft. along the river channel and creek channels. Report submitted by Rick Stafford.

OK Aquarium hosts Homeschool Day

EducationReading1Since its inception in 2003, the Oklahoma Aquarium has provided hands-on learning to homeschool students and parents through its quarterly Homeschool Days. These are days where homeschool students and parents can visit the Aquarium at the reduced educational rate and attend special activities provided by the education department.

Ryan Christmas Show at Jazz Depot

DonaldRyanSome refer to Tulsa’s Donald Ryan as “the master of diverse styles.” Some suggest he is “a musical kaleidoscope, sparkling at everything he plays.”

For this writer, a Ryan solo performance is joy to the ear and, this Sunday, Ryan is home for a joyous Christmas Season performance at Tulsa’s Jazz Depot.

“I’ve loved Christmas music ever since I was a kid,” he says, “and when I play it I look for things that I like, that I can express myself in. Most of it is traditional music, more religious. There will be some music that’s just seasonal. I look for things that have an infectious melody, that have harmonic possibilities that I can massage, and some things I can add rhythm to.” He laughs. “I can add rhythm to just about anything.”
