USA BMX Raises Over $273,000

“Race for Life” fundraising races across the country support Blood Cancer United

TULSA: Each year, the USA BMX family comes together for something far bigger than racing. Nearly all year, from January 1st through October 15th, the Race for Life reminds us what this sport is all about: heart, community and hope. This year, USA BMX raised $273,389.79 for Blood Cancer United, continuing a legacy that began more than four decades ago with a boy named Todd Kingsbury.

Todd’s story — one of courage, community and compassion — sparked an enduring tradition that now reaches across North America. What started as one race to support a single rider has grown into a movement that unites thousands. Each dollar raised this year represents more than generosity; it represents the shared spirit of BMX riders, parents, volunteers and tracks who refuse to stand still in the face of challenge.

Tulsa Honors Veterans

For 107 years, the Tulsa Veterans’ Day Parade is conducted for the purpose of honoring veterans of each and all types of honorable service in one or more than one of the five branches of the United States Military; plus those veterans who have served honorably during service in the armed forces of Nations allied with the United States at a time(s) when American forces were engaged in combat operations. This Tulsa Veterans Day Parade is to Honor Veterans and those who support Veterans. 

Today’s celebration kicks off at 7 a.m. with a veterans breakfast at the VFW (1109 E. 6th St.). The parade starts at 11 a.m. at Williams Green (10 E. 3rd St.) before weaving through downtown and ending at the VFW. The Tulsa Metro Area is home to over 65,000 veterans and the Tulsa Parade is the oldest and largest Veterans Day Parade in the nation.

Endangered Whooping Cranes Visit OK

Each year, sportsmen, bird watchers, and other wildlife enthusiasts can join the Wildlife Department in documenting federally endangered whooping cranes as they migrate through Oklahoma. It is important for Sandhill Crane hunters to be aware that whooping cranes could migrate through Oklahoma and be roosting or loafing in hunting areas at any time throughout the entire season.

The 2,500-mile journey from nesting grounds in Canada to wintering grounds in coastal Texas can take nearly two months, with the first migrating family groups of cranes typically reaching Oklahoma by late October. The birds may touch down in wetlands or grain fields for a few days to rest and refuel on crustaceans, other small animals, or grain before continuing on to Texas.
