TULSA, OK—The Tulsa Shock hosted the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday night and handed the defending champs of the WNBA a 74-59 loss in front of an alleged 4,566 in the BOK Center.

The victory by the Shock (12-14) was a gritty, hard fought battle and saw two players reach major watermarks in their careers as center Courtney Paris notched her 1,000th career rebound in the first quarter and Karima Christmas scored her 1,000th career point in the second half.

Tulsa Football wraps practice, ready for fans

TUfootballCityThe Tulsa football team will hold Fan Appreciation Day at H.A. Chapman Stadium on Saturday, FREE to the public, from 10 a.m.-12 noon. The Hurricane will scrimmage and afterwards sign autographs for fans. The day will also feature activities for young fans, including an inflatable area, games, face painting by the TU spirit teams and an interactive photo station.

Tulsa, Oklahoma – It was the fifth practice session on Monday morning for the Golden Hurricane football team and the first where the heat index didn’t soar to over 100-degrees. Today’s temperatures stayed a pretty consistent 87-degrees throughout the 140-minute workout in shorts and shoulder pads on Harwell Field.

“The Good Lord said those guys are working hard, let’s give them a day,” quipped Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery when asked about today’s weather.

Circling the Drain: Shock lose again

ShockWNBLPHOENIX, AZ:  It’s not getting any better.

The Tulsa Shock traveled to the high desert on Tuesday night to take on the Phoenix Mercury for the second time in a week and fell to them 87-84 after a clutch last second three-pointer by the Mercury’s DeWanna Bonner.

Phoenix (13-7) struggled to run a final play after a timeout with 23 seconds left and again after a timeout with 5.2 left before getting the ball to Bonner near mid-court. She started right, went left above the key before taking a dribble back to the right and shooting over Karima Christmas.

Tulsa Oilers announce affiliations

OilersLogoExactly a week and a day after announcing a new coach, the Tulsa Oilers wasted little time in obtaining an affiliation in both the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League.

The Tulsa Oilers will be affiliated with the Winnipeg Jets of the NHL and the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

“We are thrilled to enter into this partnership with the Jets and the Moose,” said Taylor Hall, General Manager of the Oilers.  “Both teams are first-class organizations that share our commitment to winning and not only is this an exciting day for our fans, but it is also an important day for our players who want to continue their development and succeed at the next level.”
