Oklahoma’s Ten Commandment Monument

LEVY COUNTY, Fla. – Officials in a Florida county have denied an application to erect an atheist monument near a Ten Commandments display at the county courthouse.

The group Williston Atheists had submitted an application last month to Levy County officials to place the 1,500 pound granite bench on the grounds.

However, in considering the matter this week, the county said that the proposed monument contained quotes that were considered incomplete.

Fourth time’s a charm for Revolution

RevolutionWhichita1TULSA, OK—Of all their opponents this season in the Professional Arena Soccer League, the Tulsa Revolution (2-12) has played the Wichita B-52’s the most, meeting twice in the Hartmann Arena in Park City, Kansas and on their home pitch in the Cox Business Center once, with all of the matches ending with Wichita on the heavy side of the scoreboard.

After last week’s match, the Revolution were riddled with various injuries, most notably to star forward Franck Tayou and Levi Coleman, and they were not in the lineup Friday night as they took on the B-52’s for the fourth and final time this season, and after Wichita’s last visit to Tulsa two weeks ago resulted in the B-52’s winning the match 10-9 in the final minute, head coach Michael Nsien’s team was ripe for some payback.

Senate Republicans announce 2014 agenda

OKcapitolLgThe Senate Republican caucus unveiled its 2014 legislative agenda Thursday with an emphasis on continuing Oklahoma’s economic momentum. The agenda focuses on jobs and the economy, education, health and human services, public safety, veterans, transportation and government reform.

“We’ve made tremendous strides in recent years to grow Oklahoma’s economy, creating jobs and investment in our state,” said Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman. “We must continue this momentum as we enter the legislative session—this agenda helps us keep the focus on making Oklahoma the best place to live and work in the nation.”

CARE better than Obamacare

HealthcareHome2WASHINGTON – Today, The Center for Health Economy released an economic analysis that found that the Patient Choice, Affordability, Responsibility, and Empowerment (CARE) Act – a legislative plan put forward this week by Senators Richard Burr (R-N.C.), Tom Coburn, M.D. (Okla.), and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) – reduces health care costs, lowers premiums, provides more Americans with health care coverage than Obamacare. The analysis found the proposal also increases health care productivity and reduces the nation’s debt.

Tulsa gets a USL franchise

USLPRThe United Soccer League (USL PRO) announced on Wednesday that they have awarded Tulsa an expansion franchise to begin play in 2015.

The Tulsa Drillers of Minor League Baseball will be majority owners of the new team with Prodigal LLC holding a minority interest in the squad.

“USL PRO is thrilled about the addition of a Tulsa franchise that will feature a strong ownership group, proven executive sports management team, and excellent downtown venue all in a market with a history of support for professional soccer,” USL President Tim Holt said. “In a sport built on rivalries, Tulsa fans will immediately enjoy an intense geographic rivalry with OKC Energy FC on the field, while the two clubs collaborate off the field to grow the sport at all levels throughout the state.  This represents another major step in USL PRO’s plan for stable and strategic growth into key national markets.”
