Property rights change could impact tax vote

TulsaSkyline3Analysis:  The Tulsa World is reporting today (Monday, Sept. 9) that city officials have drafted an ordinance amendment that would restrict rights of property owners within the core business district.

The story by Kevin Canfield notes, “Under the proposal, a property owner wishing to turn land within the IDL (Intercity Dispersal Loop) into a surface parking lot would need approval from the Board of Adjustment.”  Click here to read the Tulsa World story.

Republican birthday rally

TulRepubLogo1The Republican Party of Tulsa County will be hosting a party and rally in celebration of the 159th birthday of the Republican Party from 12 noon to 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 17th at the Spirit Bank Event Center, 104th & South Memorial in Tulsa.

In the early 1850’s, these anti-slavery activists found commonality with rugged individuals looking to settle in western lands, free of government charges. “Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men,” went the slogan. And it was thus in joint opposition to human enslavement and government tyranny that an enterprising people gave birth to the Republican Party.

MicroSecession offers steps of value

MicroSecessionCoverBook Review:  Over years of writing on public policy the most frequent question from readers is, “What can we do?”  One answer in a personal way is found in the new book MicroSecession by Tulsa author Jonathan Bartlett.  It speaks to how the individual can add value regardless of what the economy or the government does.  A family answer as Washington becomes more oblivious.

MicroSecession, as the jacket notes, “isn’t about getting rich, overthrowing the government, or abandoning civilization.”  The work focuses on practical ideas for increasing personal value on the ground and, in some cases, from the ground up “giving yourself independence by decreasing your dependence” as Bartlett writes.
