Inhofe: Peace, goodwill from Christmas parade

JimInhofeParadeThe “war on Christmas” has come to an end in Tulsa this year. For nearly 90 years, residents in Tulsa commemorated the Christmas season with one large parade downtown, but in 2011, local leaders decided to jump on an unfortunate national trend of removing the word “Christmas” from the event.

 After 40 years of riding a horse in the parade, I joined many others and said that if Christ wasn’t welcome, then I also would no longer be participating in the event. This is because Christmas isn’t just a holiday that can be sugar-coated for the sake of political appeasement.

Tulsa County enhances web site

TulsaCountyTulsa County recently launched a refreshed and updated website at http://www.tulsacounty.org/.  The previous version of the Tulsa County website had changed little since 2009. 

In 2009, county leaders worked to revamp Tulsa County’s online presence to make available vast amounts of information including access to each elected office as well as county budgets, contracts, forms and meeting agendas.

Bynum begins race for mayor

GTBynumIt began officially on Facebook over the weekend in no surprise for most, but today Tulsa City Councilor G.T. Bynum announced he is “filing paperwork to start his campaign for Mayor of Tulsa.” In a release to local media, Bynum’s campaign listed prominent Tulsans “who have agreed to serve on his campaign steering committee.”

The group is comprised of people that hold vastly different perspectives on the approach to public policy issues at the local, state and national level.  Bynum addresses this point saying, “Like Tulsa, these steering committee members represent a broad range of backgrounds and beliefs.  And like Tulsa, they are ready to unite and build a better city for the people they love.  I am appreciative so many have already committed to help with our campaign.”

NSU-BA hosts blood drive

HeroShirtNortheastern State University and Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) are partnering for a blood drive Wednesday, November 18, to help save the lives in area hospitals. The event will run from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the Broken Arrow campus.

Each donor will receive a ‘HERO’ T-shirt in recognition of the selfless act of giving. One blood donation can save as many as three lives. Yet, it typically takes only an hour to give blood, this brief act of community service can make a major, life-saving difference.
