Iran’s major nuclear expansion

Iran is seeking a major expansion of its nuclear capacity, as is evidenced by an attempt to purchase 100,000 magnets used in centrifuge machines, according to report released by the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS).

“They are positioning themselves to make a lot of nuclear progress quickly,” the Washington Post quoted an unnamed European diplomat as saying following the publication of the ISIS report, “Each step forward makes the situation potentially more dangerous.”

USDA cultural sensitivity gone wild

Updated: Judicial Watch recently released USDA videos revealing a compulsory “Cultural Sensitivity Training” program requiring USDA employees to bang on tables, chanting in unison “The pilgrims were illegal aliens” while being instructed to no longer use the word “minorities,” but to replace it with “emerging majorities.” Judicial Watch received the videos pursuant to a May 18, 2012, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.

The sensitivity training sessions, described as “a huge expense” by diversity awareness trainer and self-described “citizen of the world” Samuel Betances, were held on USDA premises. The diversity event is apparently part of what USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack described in a memo sent to all agency employees as a “new era of Civil Rights” and “a broader effort towards cultural transformation at USDA.”  In 2011 and 2012, the USDA paid Betances and his firm nearly $200,000 for their part in the “cultural transformation” program.

Famed Investor: Makes you wonder whether Obama is ‘delusional’ or ‘lying’

Noted investor, free market advocate, and author Jim Rogers during an interview with Glenn Beck on Wednesday said the State of the Union address makes you wonder whether President Barack Obama is “delusional” or just a good liar.

Our “debt is physically impossible to pay off,” Rogers said after Beck asked whether the country has passed the point of no return. “We are the largest debtor nation in the history of the world.”

“If everybody paid 100 percent of their earnings as taxes, we still couldn’t pay it off,” he added.

Mullet Over #548

In 2006, a romantic British helicopter pilot in training used his multi-million dollar Lynx aircraft to deliver a pizza to his girlfriend. The pilot was openly disciplined by the Ministry of Defense. However, his fellow pilots re-designed their special unit badge to include a Domino’s Pizza logo.

Ponce de Leon (1474-1521) is most noted for his futile attempts to locate the Fountain of Youth. Perhaps unknown to many readers is that the man led a varied, interesting life. Said to be of noble Basque lineage, “Poncy” learned battle tactics fighting against the Moors in Spain, accompanied Columbus on Christopher’s second famous voyage, became wealthy dealing in gold and slaves, was appointed governor of Puerto Rico, established Spain’s claim to Florida, named Florida (flowers) and provided King Ferdinand ownership rights to  several regional islands. Ponce was knighted and awarded a personal coat of arms. The intrepid explorer led a foray into southwestern Florida in July of 1521 and was killed by a Calusa warrior (arrow wound).

Great to be back

Tulsa Today was offline for almost 24 hours and we thank so many of our readers for texting and calling to check on our wellbeing.  Nice to know you missed us.

The host we use has server farms in both Atlanta, Georgia and Falkenstein, Germany and in an issue not related to Tulsa Today, their entire network went down Thursday around 11:00 am and returned at 8:00 am Central Daylight Time.  Unfortunately, these things happen sometimes.  It does suggest that we should mirror the site on other servers and we are looking into the details to see if that would prevent a similar interruption.

Regardless, thank you for your support.
