Medical Guilds are Bad Medicine

Monopolies, Oligarchy, Elitism, Authoritarianism and Groupthink are hurting patients, driving up costs, blocking innovation, and trampling civil rights

In a broad, metaphorical sense (as often used by economists like Milton Friedman or in historical analyses), the term “guild” refers to professional organizations and regulatory bodies that function like traditional medieval guilds by controlling entry into the profession, setting standards, influencing licensing, and protecting members’ economic interests. Common examples of Medical guilds include:

  • State Medical Boards. They are empowered by individual states to regulate licensing and discipline physicians (the closest to actual “guild-like” control over who can practice). During COVID, state medical boards became notorious for de-licensing physicians for not complying with arbitrary and capricious “standard of care” guidelines promoted by Dr. Anthony Fauci, the CDC (Rochelle Walinski and Dimitri Dasalakis), and the FDA (Janet Woodcock, Peter Marks).
Headquarters of the American Medical Association (AMA), a 52-story skyscraper in downtown Chicago, is located at 330 North Wabash Avenue, Suite 39300, and is known as AMA Plaza. The AMA leases floors 39-47 (265,000 square feet) at an annual cost of approximately 7-8M$. Annual revenue for the AMA is approximately 500M$.

State Question 842

Free’s Homeowners From Ad Valorem Taxation and Turbocharges the Economy

Oklahoma is now engaged in a relentless fight for fiscal prudence and taxpayer sovereignty. The newly updated State Question 842 stands as a beacon of true conservatism, a citizen-led assault on the oppressive yoke of ad valorem property taxes levied on owner-occupied homesteads. Filed on December 5, 2025, by principled proponents such as former State Rep. Mike Reynolds, Rep. Jay Steagall (R-Yukon), and Sen. Shane Jett (R-Shawnee), this initiative isn’t about reckless giveaways but a calculated strike against government bloat, liberating hard-earned dollars from bureaucratic clutches to fuel free-market dynamism. Here at the Sooner Sentinel, staunch defenders of limited government and rock-bottom taxes, we hail SQ842 as a masterstroke: it slashes a regressive tax that stifles home ownership, injecting those savings back into the economy where they multiply through voluntary spending, ultimately swelling consumption-based revenues far beyond the initial relief.

Dick Schulze (1929-2025) Patriot, Soldier, Congressperson, Federalist, Reagan Advisor, Christian, Sportsman, Friend, Mentor

Dick taught me the meaning of the word “Comity”, and how important that once was in US politics

A couple of weeks ago, Jill and I attended an informal gathering of the “Quarantine Club” at a friend’s house in Rappahannock County, Virginia, just north of our farm here in Madison, VA. This informal group of influential conservatives has been meeting for quite a few years now, beginning as a refusal to comply with the COVID lockdown mandates. Many of the core members have served in previous Republican administrations, going back to the Reagan years and extending through Trump 45 and 47. Passing by and through over the subsequent years have been other prominent conservative/libertarian political leaders whose names you would recognize. But two of the core members have been Dick and Nancy Schulze, names that you may not be familiar with unless you have been politically involved at the national level for quite a while.
