Commission approves martyrdom for Fr. Rother

A special Theological Commission at the Congregation of the Causes of Saints in Rome voted Tuesday to formally recognize Oklahoma’s Servant of God Father Stanley Rother a martyr. The determination of martyrdom is a critical step in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City’s Cause to have Father Rother beatified, the final stage before canonization as a saint.

“Father Rother laid down his life for Christ and for the people of his parish in Guatemala, whom he dearly loved. It is very encouraging to move one step closer to a formal recognition by the Church of Father Rother’s heroic life and death as a martyr for the Gospel,” said the Most Rev. Paul S. Coakley, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.

Updated with video: Attorney General Scott Pruitt was first to comment on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the King v. Burwell case and other elected official quickly followed. However the most damning reaction can be found in Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s dissent.

Pruitt said, “It’s disappointing the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Obama administration’s executive rewriting of the Affordable Care Act by ruling on the context of the statute rather than the plain language of the law. The court acknowledged that the challengers’ arguments were strong, but focused instead on the outcome of their opinion. There’s no doubt the rule of law took a hit today, but I won’t be deterred from continuing to fight for the rule of law and our founding principles.”

Pierson lifts Shock to fifth straight

Two big wins over the weekend have landed what once was the afterthought of the WNBA in first place in the Western Conference with a record of 6-1.

The Shock defeated the Washington Mystics 86-82 on Friday night and the Minnesota Lynx 86-78 on Sunday. They will return home this Friday night for a contest with the New York Liberty and will remain home for a 6pm game with the Seattle Storm on Sunday.

In an exclusive interview with Tulsa Today, Pletcher said he has also provided this testimony and further documentation to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Cherokee National Gaming Commission and the Department of Justice’s U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma Danny C. Williams.

This comes one day after the Cherokee Election Commission informed the internationally recognized Carter Center of the decision by the Commission not to extend an invitation to observe the upcoming Cherokee elections.
