The riddle of the ‘angel priest’ – solved

AngelPriestUpdated:  Pinned inside her mangled Mercedes, seriously injured and fading fast, Katie Lentz turned to her rescuers on the lonely open stretch of Missouri highway and asked them to pray.

Struck head-on by a drunk driver on Sunday morning, emergency workers had been battling for an hour and a half to free Lentz, but to no avail.

But as they joined hands a Catholic priest appeared, even though there were no bystanders and the road was blocked, who offered a prayer and an instruction to the rescuers that they would now be able to free her.

Walmart slaps back

WalMartTired of being a poster child for stingy salaries, Walmart is taking a left-wing critic to task according to the Daily Beast.  Good to know Walmart has a bit of brass and backbone.

With about 1.4 million associates, Walmart is the nation’s largest private-sector employer. The wages it pays set the benchmark for the rest of the retail sector. In most states, associates earn an average of $12 or $13. (In Alabama, for example, associates earn an average of $12.53). Annualized, that comes out to about $25,000, which is barely above the poverty level for a family of four (PDF). Walmart critics dispute these numbers. A report by IBISWorld—an independent market-research group—states that the average Walmart’s associate makes $8.81 per hour. That translates to only $15,576 a year for full-time workers.

So it’s not surprising that Walmart has become a target for critics of low wages. In July, for example, the Washington, D.C., City Council passed a measure that seemed aimed at keeping Walmart out—unless it agreed to raise wages sharply.

Republican birthday rally

TulRepubLogo1The Republican Party of Tulsa County will be hosting a party and rally in celebration of the 159th birthday of the Republican Party from 12 noon to 2:30 pm on Saturday, August 17th at the Spirit Bank Event Center, 104th & South Memorial in Tulsa.

The Grand Old Party was established in 1854.  It all started with people who opposed slavery. They were common, everyday people who bristled at the notion that men had any right to oppress their fellow man. In the early 1850’s, these anti-slavery activists found commonality with rugged individuals looking to settle in western lands, free of government charges. “Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men,” went the slogan. And it was thus in joint opposition to human enslavement and government tyranny that an enterprising people gave birth to the Republican Party.

Devastating definition of liberalism

Rush LimbaughConservative talk show radio host Rush Limbaugh recently broke down “liberalism” in a detailed-yet-simplistic way for his listeners.

Limbaugh argued that “in a free country, people will not choose liberalism.”

“If they want to eat salt, they’ll eat it. If they want to eat trans fats, they’ll eat it. If they want to eat beef, they’ll eat it,” he explained. “The only way liberals can get you to live the way they want you to is to deny you freedom to do what you want to do. And they’re not happy with you living and thinking in ways other than the way they live and think. You must conform.”
