Election Preview: County Commission District 3

TulsaCountyAnalysis:  In a special primary election Tuesday to fill the Tulsa County Commission District 3 seat previously held by Fred Perry, four contenders offer themselves for voter consideration; Ron Peters, Don Crall, Brandon Perkins, and John Wright.  In many ways they represent the current constituent groups found within the Republican Party.

Only one Democrat filed for the office and he will meet the winner of the primary this fall.  As the district is heavily Republican, this primary is critical.

The extreme right candidate is John Wright.  While personally much more pleasant than his mentor Tulsa County Assessor Ken Yazel; Wright is an employee of the assessor’s office.

Election Preview: The race for mayor

TulsaTodayLogoPicAnalysis:  Tuesday the City of Tulsa will vote to decide who will lead the city as mayor.  The three top contenders are incumbent Mayor Dewey Bartlett, former-Mayor Kathy Taylor and former-City Councilor Bill Christiansen.  All are well known and, from internal polls provided to Tulsa Today from multiple sources, voter support of each candidate is not moving much despite a barrage of direct mail and broadcast advertising.

Bartlett and Christiansen both interviewed with Tulsa Today and you may read those interviews for detail on their positions, click here for Mayor Dewey Bartlett and click here for former-Councilor Bill Christiansen.

Former-mayor Kathy Taylor, despite claims of transparency and openness, failed to respond to repeated requests for an interview.  Taylor has focused on limited interviews, glittering generalities and paid public pronouncements.  The joke during her term was a question of how many lawyers does a lawyer need to serve as Mayor of Tulsa?  The answer for Taylor didn’t matter as the Oklahoma Supreme Court set aside Taylor’s payback of tax money to the Bank of Oklahoma for the Great Plains Airline debacle – so much for competent council.

WOLF: Tyranny in our time

Is Barack Obama our King George?

Is Obama our new King George?

Worshipers of President Barack H. Obama should not read the article by Dr. Milton R. Wolf that recently appeared in The Washington Times.  Leftists may pop-off in rage as facts contrary to their religious zeal for top-down control over those pesky unwashed masses is shown to be what history has always proven – tyranny.

Wolf makes a compelling case.  Conservatives have been saying much the same for decades, but as the old saying goes, those (idiots of the Left) that don’t consider history are often condemned to repeat it.  Of course, the beloved leader’s wide wife Machelle said something about Americans needing to relearn history (or was that consume propaganda) before she was promptly hushed by handlers.

Back to the awakening as Dr. Wolf wrote:

Americans are beginning to recognize the disturbing similarities between President Obama and the fallen Richard Nixon, but the comparison that may matter more is between Mr. Obama and King George III.

“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance,” in the words of the Declaration of Independence.

King George’s assault on the Americans’ natural freedoms was oppressive, intolerable and deserving of a revolution. The truth is, the intrusion, restriction and outright harassment that our government subjects us to today is far beyond what the colonists faced from their tyrannical king. If it was tyranny in 1776, then, by God, it is tyranny today.

Farmer acquitted of producing milk

Vernon Hershbeger

Vernon Hershbeger

In a rare, but welcome decision a farmer was recently acquitted of producing milk without a license.  It is a sad fact seemingly everything is both heavily regulated by the government and politicized. This applies to, yes, even cow’s milk.  In this case of Wisconsin farmer, Vernon Hershbeger, he was prosecuted for selling raw milk to his friends and neighbors.
