Analysis: In an exclusive interview with Tulsa Today State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax said Oklahoma’s 2020 candidate filing period for federal, state, legislative and county offices will begin April 8 as scheduled. It’s a tight schedule.

“The Governor and Legislature could eliminate the primary run-off to make it a winner-take-all, but final ballots must be mailed in September to U.S. Service Personnel Overseas to get them back by November,” Ziriax said.

Don’ts and Dos on Coronavirus

Some views expressed here are controversial. So, do ask your doctor. I hope you have one—not just the HMO or retail clinic “provider.”

Don’t panic. That is always good advice. If you, like the world’s economy, operate on just-in-time inventories, and did not take advice to stock up 3 weeks ago, do not join a mob at a big-box store. Somebody there is no doubt infected. Plus, there’s the risk of getting trampled or injured in a fist fight over the last roll of toilet paper. Most of the world survives without that luxury good. If you have no rice or beans or pasta in the pantry, that is more serious, but you should still avoid mobs if at all possible. Take-out and drive-through places are booming.

How to end the lure of Socialism

The fascination many young people have with socialism represents an understandable misunderstanding of injustice and its remedies. How can we stem the tide of socialism’s popularity with young people?

Not that long ago, young people cheered this era’s greatest champion of liberty, Dr. Ron Paul, and his ideas of no income tax and an end to foreign wars. Thousands of young people on college campuses found liberty, not collectivism, exhilarating, and they shouted “End the Fed.” But this political season, the complete socialization of medical care, “Medicare for All,” is perhaps the most effective tool used by demagogues to lure the support of the young. Is it possible to draw young people away from these chilling ideas, and lead them to embrace liberty?

Celebrating women’s right to vote

The last few weeks have been fast and furious as we worked through hundreds of bills in our committees.  Thursday is the deadline to report Senate bills out of the Senate.  We ended reporting out more than 400 bills out of committee and have around 200 more to hear on the floor.   

 I have 22 bills this working their way through the process.  Three of them (SB 824, 899 & 996) are awaiting House consideration.
