Governor Fallin signs horse meat processing bill

Governor Mary Fallin Friday signed House Bill 1999 ending the prohibition on horse meat processing for export in Oklahoma. Forty-six states, not including Oklahoma, currently allow horsemeat processing.

“In Oklahoma – as in other states – abuse is tragically common among horses that are reaching the end of their natural lives. Many horses are abandoned or left to starve to death. Others are shipped out of the country, many to Mexico, where they are processed in potentially inhumane conditions that are not regulated by the U.S. government.

Arthrell goes creeping

[Updated 4/2] Defeated Tulsa Democrat Dan Arthrell was caught “snooping” in Representative Katie Henke’s capital office – an office he repeatedly tried to win over three recent elections.  Henke, a Republican, won in the final battle by over 900 votes.

According to Mike McCarville, Oklahoma political commentator and publisher of the The McCarville Report (TMR), “Wednesday morning, Henke staffers and others noticed Arthrell, a lobbyist, in her office area.  He soon disappeared from view and then, the sources say, Rep. Mark McBride spotted Arthrell in Henke’s office taking photographs with his cell phone.

Tulsa County to re-open north entrance to courthouse

Tulsa County will re-open the north entrance to the Courthouse tomorrow, March 28, 2013, marking the completion of Phase I improvements to the Tulsa County Courthouse Complex.  The entrance has been under renovation since the opening of the new east entrance in late 2012.  The improvements where funded by the 4-to-Fix-the-County II capital improvements program, which was approved by Tulsa County voters in 2005.

Tulsa ranked fourth in quality banking

Tulsa ranked fourth on a recent survey of top 10 list of “Best Cities for Banking” with banks that pay a much higher interest rate than in other regions of the United States.  Tulsa also has a relatively high diversity of banking institutions and no bank or credit union failures since 2009 according to NerdWallet.

Easy access to stable banking options with consumer-friendly products and services is one of the most critical elements of maintaining financial security for households and communities as a whole. However, such qualities vary drastically across cities of the United States.
